Sharpen your audition and performance skills by working directly with the people behind the table in this three-class series. Workshop your audition, the acting of the song, and gain insight on what they are looking for in each audition.  Learn from some of the best casting directors from Broadway, Off Broadway, National Tours and Regional Theaters and Cruise Lines:

 

Instructors and Dates:

  • Week 1 (Monday Mar 25th, 7pm) with Jason Styres (from The Casting Collaborative)

  • Week 2 (Monday Apr 1st, 7pm) with Alison Franck  (from Franck Casting)

  • Week 3 (Monday Apr 8th, 7pm) with Paul Hardt (from Hardt Casting)

All classes will be held at Open Jar Studios, 1601 Broadway, 11th Floor. Class will begin each week at 7pm and each student will work one-on-one with the instructor on cuts of audition songs or monologues in a classroom setting. Each class will also include a short Q&A, information on the intricacies of the casting process and insight on what the auditioner can do to stand out.  

Under the direction of Artistic Director, Jeff Whiting, Open Jar’s Professional Class Series provides unique opportunities for performers to continue to hone their skills and work one-on-one with Broadway’s best stars, directors, composers,  agents, and casting directors.

BIOS: 

JASON STYRES, CSA, cast such shows as A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Broadway and National Tour), Dames at Sea (Broadway), The Lion King (Broadway and National Tour), Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (National Tour), Trip of Love (Off-Broadway), and Nice Work If You Can Get It (Broadway), and for over 15 different productions for the prestigious New York City Center Encores! series. Jason has worked with such directors and choreographers as Darko Tresnjak, Randy Skinner, Camille A. Brown, Warren Carlyle, Josh Bergasse, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Marc Bruni, Casey Nicholaw, Kathleen Marshall, Josh Rhodes, John Doyle, and James Lapine, amongst many others. Other credits include Hartford Stage, New York Philharmonic, Shakespeare Theatre Company (DC), San Francisco Symphony, Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), TUTS Underground, and North Shore Music Theatre. Jason also cast the three-time Emmy nominated production of Carousel (produced by the NY Philharmonic/PBS), the smash hit television show So You Think You Can Dance, and the highly praised HBO documentary Six by Sondheim. Some recent favorite projects include Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Prancing Elites Project, and How You Look At It - a brand new dance short by Wendy Seyb, currently gathering awards across the country in various film festivals. 

ALISON FRANCK, CSA, has been a casting director in NYC for more than 28 years. She started as an assistant for many Broadway Productions, then she worked in film/TV for several years, then from 2000-2010, she was the Resident Casting Director at Paper Mill Playhouse. In 2011 she joined the team at Liz Lewis Casting Partners, where she cast commercials, voiceovers, film/TV, and theatre. Alison now runs her own company, Franck Casting, where she has cast several tours of well-known musicals including Legally Blonde, Dreamgirls, An American in Paris, A Christmas Story: The Musical, A Chorus Line, The Simon and Garfunkel StoryMadagascar, the Musical and the upcoming tours of The Cher Show and Little Women.

PAUL HARDT, CSA  Broadway: Once Upon A One More Time, West Side Story, Come Fly AwayAugust Osage County, A Moon For The Misbegotten, On Golden Pond, Hot Feet, Caine Mutiny Court Martial. National Tours, Cats, West Side Story (US and World Tour), A Bronx Tale, Dirty Dancing, Legends!, Whistle Down The Wind, On Golden Pond, August Osage County and he current North American tour of Annie. Regional Theatres include: Goodspeed Opera House, Bucks County Playhouse, Delaware Theatre Company, TheaterWorks Hartford, Shakespeare Theatre Company.
