THE RUTH THEATER PRESENTS: BROADWAY AUDITION WORKSHOP AND NYC TRIP GIVE AWAY!

• What's the deal? The Ruth Theater and Open Jar Institute, are teaming up to put on a Broadway Audition Workshop for Utah High School students.

• When and where? October 11, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 3 PM at The Ruth Theater in Pleasant Grove. $15 registration fee. Register early to ensure a spot! 

• Who's teaching? Big names from Broadway! Jeff Whiting and James Gray will lead classes on acting, dance, and singing, all focused on nailing those auditions.

• Summer Intensive Audition and NYC Trip Giveaway! One talented student will win a full scholarship to a week-long Broadway Intensive in NYC at Open Jar Institute. We're talking airfare, hotel, shows, food, classes—the works! 

• Parents and teachers welcome: Parents may come watch the final callbacks and Talent Award/Scholarship presentation which will take place on the stage of the Theater.

• Who are The Ruth Theater and Open Jar Institute? The Ruth (formerly known as Hale Center Theater Orem) has over 30 years experience producing world class theater in The Utah Valley. Open Jar Institute is housed at Open Jar Studios, the largest Broadway Rehearsal studio in the heart of Times Square. They have over 26 years experience fostering Broadway’s next generation of performing artists.

• JEFF WHITING is a director and choreographer with work on Broadway, Television, Special Events and Concerts around the world. BROADWAY (Associate): Bullets Over Broadway, The Scottsboro Boys, Hair, Young Frankenstein, Big Fish. UPCOMING: Love Affair, Crazy For You, Marie: Dancing Still, In The Light, Loch Lomond, The Imaginary, The Lost Colony, Tribu, Cookies, Invincible, Joan Crawford in Flesh and Blood. NATIONAL TOUR: Bullets Over Broadway, Hairspray, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, The Rockin’ Road to Dublin, Louis and Ella. OFF-BROADWAY & OTHER: Hairspray (NSMT), Fly More Than You Fall (World Premiere), Cookies (NYMF), Single Wide (NYMF), Chasing Rainbows (World Premiere), Gypsy (Capital). BUSINESS: Jeff is the creator and founder of Stage Write Software, the standard method for documenting choreography, the Founding Artistic Director of The Open Jar Institute, a premiere music theatre training program, and President of Open Jar Studios, and was featured in a TED Talk sharing his philosophy of “Open Jar Thinking”. • JAMES GRAY: Director/Choreographer. BROADWAY: The Producers, Young Frankenstein, A Christmas Story The Musical, Bullets Over Broadway. WEST END: Me and My Girl, Mack and Mabel, Beauty and the Beast, The Producers. TOUR: 42nd Street, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. FILM: The Producers. SPECIAL EVENTS/CONCERTS: The Hello Dolly Gala with Carol Channing, The Styne Way Gala (where he partnered Chita Rivera and Rita Moreno) at the London Palladium. He has recently choreographed the upcoming  movie Humor Me starring Elliot Gould and Germain Clements.

• What to Prepare?

  • Bring 16 - 32 bars of sheet music for your best audition song. An accompanist will be provided. 

  • Wear clothes and shoes that you can move in (sweats and sneakers are fine)

  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated! 

  • Bring snacks if you need something to eat between the beginning of the workshop and the pizza party at the end.
